The COMMUNITY
The community of Port Wakefield is typically made up of what you would expect to find in a country town. There is a strong mix of second and third local family generations combined with a broad mix of people from different cultural backgrounds and locations. There is a mix of agricultural, fishing, retail and factory orientated employees who make up the community. Generally you will find it an easy going laid back atmosphere with a strong emphasis on sporting and community participation.
Residents will normally be involved in multiple clubs and organisations, and will not only participate in the activities but will also have a co-ordinating or maintenance commitment. A town of such population (approx 500) could not support the number of groups and organisations it has without residents being involved with a number of clubs and organisations.
Apart from the clubs conducting sporting activities throughout the year, the community regularly holds events such as ANZAC Day, Australia Day and annual fund raising auctions.
