1.1 Introduction
The Development Action Plan that has been developed for Port Wakefield is a review of the previous Strategic Plan 2003-2006, which included issues that concern the town and those actions that can be put in place to address those issues. In the development of the plan emphasis has been placed on defining achievable actions that can be undertaken in a short to medium timeframe.
Port Wakefield is a located 97 km North of Adelaide on Highway 1 and is widely recognized as a service centre to passing traffic. This impression has both been positive and negative for the local community. Positive in providing economic opportunities along Highway 1, employment for locals, and onging emergency services. Negative in that the township proper, wharf area and historic attractions of the township have been largely overlooked by passing traffic.

1 Soldiers Memorial Hall - an important function area for the town
2 Post Office
3 2 Hotels including accommodation
4 Port Wakefield Motel
5 Port Wakefield Caravan Park
6 A variety of shops, service stations and businesses servicing the community and travellers
